Matt Grassick

Despite coming from a “non automotive” family, cars and engines have always been at the forefront of his mind, much to his father’s confusion. “ I grew up on a farm, so I was driving tractors etc from about 10. I used to regularly get told off for driving too fast in the tractors if that’s possible, but we did have a very old Massey Ferguson with a hand throttle that you could pull lovely power slides on the concrete pad when it was wet!”

Starting out training as a mechanic, then progressing through the years Matt has held every job role possible in the retail automotive aftersales environment. Working on behalf of several mainstream manufacturer brands and continuing through to a specialist independent workshop. He has learnt the details and intricacies of all roles from parts and service advisor, workshop controller, warranty manager all the way through to service and aftersales manager. Managing budgets and business planning, through to team performance, Matt has a wealth of knowledge and experience. “ I’ve always been a hands on person, always in the workshop, there is nothing like being under a vehicle and seeing first hand the cars condition. I wouldn’t buy a car without seeing the underneath, so why should others?”

Matt’s passion for automotive has progressed him to this stage, and the ultimate decision to set up Performance Assessments. Seeing a change in buying habits from physical to remote buyers especially post Covid, and also the volume of modern classics being marketed at perfect prices for less than perfect condition, We felt that there would be an increased need for a business that can offer a detailed assessment of a variety of vehicles and support the buyers and lenders confidence in their prospective purchase. Many vehicles are advertised as being in ‘mint’ or ‘concours’ condition, especially given the increased desirability of the new generation of modern classic buyers. However there is no substitute for getting hands on with a vehicle to truly know the condition. Many vehicles have hidden issues that to the untrained eye are not seen. We use knowledge, experience and modern equipment to really get under the skin of the car and give an accurate report highlighting any issues found, equally we love giving a report that shows the vehicle is in fact a little gem that is well worth the investment. These reports can also be sent to and discussed with marque specialists who can provide estimates for any points raised.
